Wildfires are burning across nearly 600 square miles of Washington state and the forecast today calls for strong winds in the most affected areas.
You can see the exhaustion on the faces of the firefighters. One young firefighter said this morning that the wind is really pushing the flames around and it has been really tough fighting them on the steep terrain.
He was in a downtown fire district office doing his best to catch some sleep. Fire managers wouldn’t let him go home even after his shift was over because they are so scared of the winds and everything that is happening that they want to keep everyone close in case of emergency.
More than 3,000 firefighters are fighting the blaze. Military personnel from Joint Base Lewis-McChord are expected to join the Washington's efforts over the weekend.
