Pressure Builds On Washington State Auditor To 'Come Clean'

Washington Legislature
Washington State Auditor Troy Kelley

Washington State Auditor Troy Kelley is facing increased pressure to publicly address an apparent federal investigation into his activities.

A spokesman for Governor Jay Inslee issued a statement that urges the auditor to work with federal authorities and “be open with the public.”

Former state auditor candidate and current state senator Mark Miloscia also put out a statement. He called on Kelley to “come clean” about the events of the past week and said the “credibility of the Auditor’s Office is in doubt.”

On Monday, federal Treasury agents served a search warrant on Kelley’s Tacoma home. Earlier this month, the Department of Justice served Kelley’s office with a subpoena. The nature of the federal probe has not been revealed and he’s not been charged with anything.

Kelley is scheduled to return to his office on Monday. In his one and only statement, Kelley said he had not been informed of any reasons for a search of his home.
