Meeting Where Dolezal Expected To Speak Now Postponed

A planned meeting Monday where Spokane NAACP president Rachel Dolezal was supposed to give an explanation to members has been postponed.

The Spokane civil rights advocate has become the focus of scrutiny and news stories worldwide since her parents revealed that she is white. Dolezal has identified herself as black and appeared to change her hair and skin tone to look African American.

She was expected to provide an explanation to the NAACP chapter where she remains president, but Dolezal has now cancelled the meeting. An announcement on Facebook said the delay would provide more time for discussions with regional and national NAACP leaders.

Last week, the national organization released a statement saying it stands behind Dolezal’s advocacy record.

Meanwhile, the city of Spokane is also looking into her activities as head of a citizen oversight committee for the Spokane Police Department. The city council president said there are questions about whether she lied about her race on an application, as well as the details of threats she reported in the past.
